OK I read some of the other posts but mine is a little different--It is only throwing 1 code P0102 w/CE Light still on after multiple resets.

Caution Long Post--but most of this info seemed important: One month ago, I bought my cheap 2000 Ford Ranger XLT 3.0L-V6 5 speed to use as a commuter vehicle to work with 99k on the ODO. I hit 100k and had the engine removed to address major leaks: RMS, both valve covers, Oil Pan gasket and the the truck leaks no more oil. Shop somehow ruined PATS system module and had Ford fix it (on them--I didn't pay any extra than what was quoted--because PATS was fine before...).

New Problem: Drove Truck 10 miles from shop, gased up and then Check Engine Light came on (I'm thinking Fuel cap or something). I had the same shop reset it twice (Code P0102 MAF A Ckt Low Input). They said, "Looks like we'll have to put a new MAF on it"--why would I spend more with them when the CE Light was not on before the engine was pulled? As I predicted. the CE Light came on again so I cleaned the MAF (with CFC MAF Cleaner--and probably screwed up b/c I sprayed the wires directly at full blast) and I pulled out my trusty OBD2 reader and got the same code (P0102 and the data stream showed "MAF FLOW 0.00 g/s" !!!!!--and that figure never changed driving around town today--even when I punched WOT!). I notice that after cleaning that the idle at ice cold start up was not as high as before and it idles down faster than before cleaning it. I cleared the DTC. Found a used MAF on ebay with only 14k miles on it to see if that works b/c I didn't want to invest the $ into a new one right away because i wonder if it is even bad... (it hasn't arrived yet).

Questions: How can I get a 0.00 g/s reading on the MAF???--I've never seen one fail that bad (I've had 4 mustang gt's). Anyone here experience this? I'm wondering if something is wrong with my PCM? The truck runs fine and is averaging 18mpg overall with an unusual idle surge at cold startup (like I'm patting the gas pedal slightly). Is this a dangerous situation that could mess up my engine?? or can I live with that P0102 code (if the newsed MAF doesn't work when I get it)? Thanks.

My sister's car did that. If one of the wires breaks completely (I think its the cold wire) it will do that. A new sensor should fix it.

My bet is that when the engine was pulled the MAF got jostled a bit more than it could handle. It happens, they get fragile with age.

Unless you find a broken harness wire I wouldn't put too much blame on the guy who did the work, it doubt its his fault. Sometimes you just break old stuff by accident when you take it apart. He should have driven it and made sure that didn't happen though.

Thanks! I feel better--couldn't find any broken wires. Plus, the shop that fixed it really bent over backwards to make the PATS issue right. They even loaned me a new 2010 F-150 for like 2 weeks--so I agree. But you're right, they should always test her out out when repairs are done.

Yeah, if I even have the intake off I don't release it without driving a good 10 miles at least.

Put on the Newsed MAF and no CE Light and the truck runs likes its brand new!! Thanks for the advice--man this 3.0 is quiet!--All I hear now is Fan upon initial startup.

Glad you got her fixed.
