I used to work with a guy who had an '83 with a 300/4 spd.

When I was in college, one of my friends had one that had (theoretically) a 3 speed, with a floor shifter. It had a "Low" gear that you only used when you needed it. Funnily enough, for a 3 speed, I seem to recall it being fairly quiet on the highway.
