I wish... I was in a work truck and got caught in a speed trap... although had I been in my ranger I probably would have had like 15 fix it tickets...
I thank you a million. Would you be available tomorrow for me to come snag em?

Well... I won TOTM with a truck that I haven't really wheeled yet on a posser shot. I'M NOT WORTHY!!

Still a super sweet truck and you have put the time and effort in!

another note, is it a huge no-no to reuse shims when setting up gears? My master install kits were a little lacking in the thinner shims, so I was thinking about just using a couple of the ones that came out of it ...

nope. I reused mine. work fine. just make sure the shims arn't ****ed up in any way before reinstalling them.

Yep right on Kevery.
I've reused them before too. No bent, creased or warped shims.

SOMEONE WANNA DO MY GEARS?! oops caplock button... I have gone too far to delete and rewrite tho.

Okay, sorry to bother you guys again, but I have another gear related question. I am trying to dial in my pinion preload, and I am using the new bearing for the inner pinion bearing, but I am using the old bearing (honed out for easy removal) as a set up bearing for the outer pinion bearing. The manual has a rating for the preload for old bearings, and one for the new. What should my preload that I am shooting for be then? somewhere in the middle? or should I just shoot for too low assuming I am going to have to play with it once I get my new bearings in?

If I remember right. The preload should be between 8 and 12. I shot for the middle (10). I did the same thing with the honing of the bearings. It really didn't make a difference when I took the old barrings out and put the new barrings in for the final install. Just double check. I set my front axle on the tighter side. Only because I'm not using it everyday. Driving around town and what not.

Yeah the manual has 14-19 for new bearings, and 6-9 for old bearings, so I went with 12 for now, and Ill check again when I put the new ones in. Good to know that it didn't change much with the new vs old bearings.
On the tighter side for pinion preload?
I started with the same stack of carrier shims as what came out, and with the new carrier it was IMPOSSIBLE to get the carrier in, so I pulled like 5 thou off both sides, and it goes in and out stiff, but will actually go in and out. do you think that is too loose?

Also pattern

Thats first try with the same inner pinion shims as what was in there before. seems pretty close to me, maybe the pinion could come in a little?

As long as they go in tight (really tight) that should be good. Your right. The pinion could come out just a little but I think its pretty good right there.

On the front axle. I made the carrier tighter to the pinion. If you live in the snow or drive in the snow I would do the same to the front as you did for the rear.

You are from Aubern so I assume at times you drive in 4x4 in the winter.
