Folks I'm just getting started here. Did all/most stock 2wd 2001 models have the same differential or are there several? :dunno: I'm picking my truck up tomorrow and want to get a level-set on how its equipped, gearing and differential. Its an 01 2.3L duratech & 5-speed. no aftermarket or otherwise mods.

Another dumb question: is it 'accepted wisdom' that the best compromise diff for a 2wd is a limited-slip type? I will seldom be offroad with this truck, but it will see a lot of two-lane backroads with some churt/gravel/rock/broken pavement/mud/etc etc. I didn't get it to drone up and down freeways if you know what I mean. it will be utilitarian.

thanks for guidance :icon_cheers:

it is most probable that the rear end is a 7.5 with a gear ratio of 3.73 or up (numerically higher) i think. also for the differential you may want to look into getting a lunchbox locker of some kind, probably a powertrax. check out this link http://www.trsfabandoffroad.com/products/lockers.htm
