This is on my 94 Ranger 4.0 Mazda 5 spd, and electric 1354. What should I be using for tranny lube? Also is that a gasket or just some goop on the mating surface of the joint? Looks like Hylomar to me What should the 1354 have for Lube? TIA

Dexron in both. I don't remember if there's an actual gasket on there or not. I just used some good old RTV black.

Between the transmission and tcase is a rubber-fiber gasket but RTV should work fine, too.

ATF for both, Mercon is probably what the owner's manual specifies but frequently you'll see ATF labeled as compliant with both Dexron and Mercon standards.

Thanks, after I posted, I did some reading and found the Mercon fills. But info about gasket and fix is appreciated as well..

I don't think you really need a gasket, there's a drain channel on the bottom of the joint... I think the gasket is there to keep the two halves separated for corrosion reasons...

Anti seize those alignment pins between the two when you're putting your transfer case back on!
