i have an 01 ranger 3.0 2wd and i have 5 inches of suspension lift, 3" spindles and 2" coils. i installed the spindles no problem about a year and a half ago and they have been great to me but about 9 months when i installed the 2" coils i discovered some unwanted noise, the coils make noise when they flex and extend and they've done that since they were brand new and when i go over speed bumps and while im on the trail and on the road for that matter and the suspension extends im hearing this loud thunking noise. now initially i thought it was due to me using shocks that were too short but i just spent about 700 on fox shox all the way around and they are fitted for my truck but its still doing it, just not as bad. can anyone shed some light on my annoying problem please lol

take the spindle off and grind the end (tip) of the lower control arm back about 1/8 of an inch, that makes lots of noise. take a 2x2inch rubber pad and pop rivet it where the top of the spindle comes down and hits the bullshit built in coil bucket ( thats the loud thunk). just grease every poly or rubber bushing and thats about all you can do. made a big difference on my ranger.

ok so i went and cleaned the coil bucket and i can now see where the spindle has been hitting it, i was wondering if there was a different way of fixing the problem other than homemade bumpstops, do you think larger upper control arms would do the trick seeing as how they offset the camber and push the spindle out?

the best way is to install limiting straps does help allot but that damn spindle hits if ur turning to fast or reverse turning. thats why i added the pad. but like a dip shit i glued them on the first time and they fell off really quick.the only way to make these years of rangers any good is to have the coil buckets cutout custom upper and lower control arms made and f250 4wd spindles.thats what i did to my 98 cost 5grand but 25inch of travel and no noise was nice.

lmao dam yeah if i wanted to spend that kind of dough i would just go and get full long travel set up with custom coilovers but im just looking for a cheap easy fix, what if i just hit the spot on the coil bucket with a big ass hammer and dent it a little you think that would fix it?

haha never thought of that check it out and see if its possible to do. then try it on yours if it works i will do it if not you have a fucked up truck and i dont lol.

unless you spend the money to get heim joints installed at the top of the spindle don't dent the frame to much for the ball joints they will break. talked to a guy today that did that and he broke his real fast.

the best way to go is limiting straps they are quieter then a rubber bump stop. but i think i have a pair i didn't use , they might be at my other house in az though.

dude my stock suspension 2007 does the same thing. when ever my suspension is fully extended(which is often with the little travel these things have) it makes a clunk. i also got aftermarket shocks and it helped a lil bit but still there.. it makes it feel like something is loose but i have checked every bolt under there tons of times
