i have a grinding noise when i let off the gas or just keep it under very light throttle. the truck drives and shifts fine, but this sounds like the trans is not in gear. it's a 5 speed btw

Have you made any mods to your drivetrain lately. Check to see if anything is too loose. Also check the condition of your u-joints. I had the same issue, turns out I measured wrong and my driveshaft was too long.

no...it has new u joints and it started before the truck was bagged

Try this: find a stretch of road, get up to speed (40 mph tops), and pop it into neutral. If it doesnt make the noise then it is in the tranny if the noise is still there its more than likely from the tranny output back. Happy hunting and let me know what you find out.

the noise is there in neutral just rolling around 10-15 mph
maybe the output bearing?
