I have a 2002 Ranger, and I am hearing a strange noise from the dash directly in front of me when my speed changes. It sounds like a bearing going bad, so I assume it must be something in the speedo cluster failing.

I don't know anything about how the speedometers in these trucks work though. Are they electrical or mechanical? What should I look for in the way of a replacement part? Do they make an entire assembly that I can just swap in?

Bone yard and just swap it out. Ebay has about 10 1 without tach if it has a cable you can possibly just give it a shot of oil. You will still need to take it out that can be fun!

Hmm mine does the same thing it makes a chattering noise periodically. Strange for an electric speedo to make these kind of noises.

I assume it must be something with the actual gears that move the needle.
