I have a 93 ford ranger ext cab 2wd. 4.0 motor with the 5 speed manual transmission. I recently had too change the ecm due a total failure. Before hand I had no issue with anything work on the truck.after changing the ecm my sspeedometer no longer works. I'm just curious wheaten or not I got a bad ecm or is there a simple fix for this. Thanks for your input in advance.

Welcome to TRS :)

1993 Ranger(up to 1994) used a speedometer cable from transmission tail shaft and into the cab thru the firewall behind the speedometer
Electric speedometers started in 1995 Rangers but didn't use the computer for speed until 2001 Rangers

The 1993 computer(ECM) is in the engine bay Drivers side, between firewall and inner fender, down low

Did you take off the larger round "thru firewall" wiring connector to get access to pull the ecm wire up?

And maybe pulled on the speedometer cable by mistake and pulled it out of the back of the speedometer?

Its locked in there by a spring clip but can be pulled out

Thats about the only thing the speedo and ECM have in common, the firewall area on drivers side

You would have to pull the instrument cluster out to access the speedo cable at that end

You can take off the speedo cable at the other end, tail shaft drivers side, and put a drill on it and spin cable to see if speedo works, so is connected, maybe the gear in the trans got stripped or broken, so just a coincidence

ECM stands for Engine Control Module...
