i tested for spark at the spark plug and at the destributor cap and nothing i then checked for power at the connection for the ignition coil and have no power at that connector. where does the connection get its power from or how do i fix this issue???

Standard or automatic transmission?

Does the engine starter crank the engine or does it just go click...or is it completely dead?

These are factors that you (we) need to better determine what it is...and what you've done so far will help eliminate things that you've tried...sometimes.

The distributor gets power from coil...coil is on the ignition wiring...ignition wiring is controlled initially by the safety neutral switch on the clutch of manuals...if that is not complete you get no power...on automatics the transmission must be in park or neutral (I think)...

So...even with the key on if there is something wrong with that

With the key in the run position you should have 12v at the ignition coil. If not you need to trace the problem through the ignition switch to the battery.

The computer is also powerd up by the ignition switch find the EEC relay it should click when you turn the key on run.

memory fuzzy is this duraspark system?

My book shows the 2.3 and 2.9 with the computer the 2.0 had the duraspark. Either way the ignition coil is powered from the ignition switch.

I'm surprised no one has said, "Check the fuse" yet.

If the starter works the fusable link is good!

Not always 'good'. That just means it's passing current. You can bypass a fusible link and still get starter power. Like straight unresistored power to a fried coil, but that bitch will whip over like nobody's business.

I dislike misinformation. No worries.

I digress...

It's TFI. Ignition module on the distributor? If yes, replace that part, then... Upgrade it. Duraspark II... more like Ford fail! Replace it with a GM Hei module. Pretty easy.
