my 85 ranger has no reverse lights. the bulbs are good, the wiring is all complete and intact. there is no power to the bulbs. i was thinking the switch on the side of the fm145 since when i got the truck the tranny was filled w/ milky sludge :dunno: and the switch seems to be rusted. anyone had this problem, i'm able to determine the problem but just wondering if i've overlooked anything. any advise would help, thanx in advanced.

sounds like the switch is your most likely suspect.

unplug it and measure the resistance accross the 2 prongs with a DVOM. it should close when put into reverse.

Or, use a test light and check the wires at the switch. One should have voltage and light the light not in reverse, and when in reverse, both wires should light the light. If no light on both wires in reverse, switch has a problem.:)shady

thanx for that info, once it warms up slightly or i can squeeze the truck into the garage i plan to fix it, its getting really akward to reverse at night when people do not know what i'm doing.
