No Red line on tach

We've got a 460 (well, 497, I think) that regularly sees 8,000 rpm. Of course about the only original Ford part is the block itself. It can be done. LOL
Mines 100% stock....nut uh no way lol

I had a stock, 100,000 mile 429 I put in a 68 Torino. I regularly raced that hitting at least 5000 rpm, maybe more. When I tore it down there was no problems. Cylinder wear was at 7 thousands and everything else was in spec. Also got 17 mpg... Same as most of my rbvs that I've driven.

Im more amazed you got 17 from a 429 torino

At the time I didn't know much about what to expect so didn't think much about it. But yes, it was extremely good mileage. Dont forget we have a gallon that is 20% bigger, so mpg in American would be 20% less. So about 13.5 in freedom mpg.

Somehow that got me tangled up in Bobby McGee

I ran my 65 mustsng to red line almost everytime i accelerated. 17 years old + 65 mustang + v8 + 3 speed stick = hot rodding automatically.

Except no tach so no redline. Just rev till it stopped pulling and shift
