No power to a/c clutch

The system is fully charged, the clutch is not frozen. We've jumped the switch and still got no power to the compressor clutch. Both relay and fuse have been replaced. Any suggestions on where to go next?

Tell me how you determined that the "clutch is not frozen".

Hook a test light to the compressor's electric plug and turn the A/C on, does it light up?

I turned the clutch with a screwdriver to make sure it was moving

Well, it sounds like you aren't getting the signal to the compressor somewhere.

Do you have the owner's manual? If so, find the horn relay and the A/C relay. Swap them.

if the relay swap does not fix it, take a look at the pressure switch. it could possibly be bad. you can get them at the junkyard pretty cheap. they just screw on.

That is actually my first instinct, but I'm assuming that is the switch they jumpered.

Thanks. Oh, I put the gauges on it to check freon level and it's in the red. Would this affect the high pressure switch?

It's possible that the high pressure switch could be preventing the system from cycling.... but I'd be curious to know what sort of freon gauge was used to check that....

You cannot judge charge level by system pressure, that is not how it works.

The A/C cycling switch will only disable the compressor if the pressure exceeds what should blow the relief valve.

I'm not sure what else I can do to get power to the compressor. Does anyone know if replacing the clutch and clutch coil would help?

If you have no electrical power to the unit, how will replacing the unpowered unit make it function?

Now have you swapped the A/C and horn relays? If you have a bad relay and swap those two the horn won't work and the A/C will.

Well, actually, you didn't answer. Adsm asked you again if you swapped the relays because you have not said whether or not you have.

If I keep answering the same questions,

I don't ask questions again once I have an answer.

I have absolutely no sympathy on that note. I have a black truck with power windows that work sometimes, and a bronco II that gets crappy air flow through it at best. One of them has A/C, the system does not hold a charge, so it doesn't work.

I'll try to help you find your electrical problem all day long. If you want to give up because you want me to read your mind about the results of my test steps, well I don't really have any sympathy because, frankly, I think that air conditioning and automatic transmissions are the two most ridiculous things that engineers ever decided to put on vehicles.

And no, I have no sympathy for people who can't drive stick either since I can do it with one foot.
