Hi All,

I have an 05 FX4, 4.0L. Recently when on the highway, every time I put my foot down my truck seems to get confused when shifting gears. It feels like its going to stall or like when the govenor kicks in at top speed. If I take my foot of the gas and then on again it goes fine. I've changed the fuel filter and it didn't seem to fix it. Any ideas would be much appreciated!!

There was a common issue with the 5R55E trans blowing out part of the valve body gasket, causing shifting symptoms, foot off the gas and back on would get shift to work.
So kinda like you described.

Google: fix transmission shift problem ford 5r55e explorer

There is a good video on how to do the repair if this is the problem.

This was mostly seen on late '90s rangers and explorers, so not sure about your '05, but you should have the same 5R55E trans., they used them from '97-'09
