I have been having trouble with my ranger starting off and on for about a year. Yesterday was slow and beautiful day so I decided to get the issue resolved. I have replaced the solenoid and the clutch safety switch. I am able to jump the solenoid and the truck will start instantly.
I rigged up a test light between the (s) terminal on the solenoid and the wire that connects to it; there was no power. I then rigged up my test light to bridge the clutch safety switch; my test light light up.
I traced the Lt. Blue and Red wire back to a wire harness that passes through the firewall but i am unable to find it on the other side. Is there a diagram some where that numbers the wires on the harness? I am currently using a Chilton manual for the wiring diagram which proves to be useless.
I noticed the harness bolts toghether and splits into two halves using pins to connect the two halves. Am I correct in assuming that the wires are soldered in place, or are they easy to remove? Would i be better off just splicing into the Lt. Blue/Red wire and running a single wire through an alternate location in the firewall to the (s) terminal?
