So im replacing my clutch in my 84 2.8/tk5 and theres no pilot bearing anywhere!!! WTF??? EVERYWHERE i've read states that the bearing goes into the crank(not the flywheel like the 2.9). Would it mess anything up with out it? Not that im not gonna put a new one in(which i am!)....i was just wondering incase it messed something up in the engine/tranny.

Also what part number(s) or inside/outside diameters would this bearing be? Seen a few pilot bearings on Autozone's, Advance's, and Oreilly's sites but dont know which to get.....? I ask this because with a little research i found out its a little cheaper and the parts are usually in stock when you get the clutch piece by piece instead of waiting 2-3 days to order a matched set.

Thanks for any advise/info!

many vehilcles have bushings as opposed to bearings, and the bushings are often not more than 1 or 2 milimeters thick

*edit, here: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/pa...h-Pilot-Bearing-Pilot-Bushing/_/N-iuy1yZ6o22x

and yes leaving it out can cause the shaft to "wallow" and i have seen the snouts on transmissions break because of this very reason. the input shaft is just too long from the bearing, and endures so much force to not be supported
