No overdrive

Hi, thanks for taking time to read this. I have a 1994 ranger that lost overdrive. It started out not going into that gear occasionaly. Maybe once every 15 times it would get up to speed. It got worse and worse untill I lost overdrive all together. I brought it to the tranny place in my town and he said torque converter was bad and said 800$. I said eff that and put it in myself, however it did not fix my problem. I am thinking it is maybe electrical but have no idea where to start. Any help would be appreciated! Luke
