Have 87 Bronco II w/AT. shifts fine 1 2 3, then lock up. won't go into OD. what controls the OD shift? is it a solenoid of some sort, controlled electrically, or is it hydraulic? thanks to all. PM or ans in forum.

There is a solenoid for the shift lock up, also a couple fuses IIRC. I'd check the fuses first, then the wiring. I had an '89 that I had checked the fuses and it still wouldn't lock up even after replacing them. I was about to try replacing the solenoid when I was under the truck studying the wiring and realized that the set of wires for the trans had come loose at some point and were laying against the exhaust, which naturally burned right through... Some heat shrink tube, short pieces of new wire, and couple dabs of soldier and I was back in business.

the shift lockup is OK. It locks up (torque conv)in 3rd gear. and as I speed up, it stays in 3rd gear. won't go into 4th (overdrive) where are these fuses? In the fuse box? I will recheck wires for bad places.
