i have heard that 2008 is the last year of the ranger? i try to found some info on that on the net but they're rumour and everything does anyone know if this is true? will they replace it with another model?

Nothing has been released yet, and for the way everyone wants to know on so many boards it should be a big deal when they release it.

The Twin Cities Assembly Plant in St. Paul, Minn has been cranking out Fords since the Model T in 1925. Ford has this new Way Forward program where they are closing some of their factorys and moving production in to other factorys and trying to give all their models fresh new looks.

I don't think Ford will completely drop the Ranger. I think you'll see it move to a new facility and get a new look.

+2, but I will be disappointed... again. Seems like Ford engineers are smoking crack lately and completely out of touch with what people really want.

I don't think its the engineers fault here.Ford's upper management are the ones using the pipe. They had the best selling small truck back in the early 90's and blew that by not keeping up with the times. No excuse for this blunder.

The price they are asking for a ranger isn't that much less than a full sized truck. The fuel economy isn't much different from the "F" series with a lot less power. Why would anyone buy a new ranger? I don't see any new s-10's rolling around and Toyota is now making full sized truck. I think Nissan is the only one making a small truck any more. I just seems that the market has changed. People want full sized trucks with big horse power. I know that's what I did when I got rid of my 2000 ranger and purchased a Titan. Half again more HP, close to twice the torque and the same gas mileage not to mention a hell of a lot more options.

That's just my opinion I could be wrong ( but I'm not )

if they offered the good south american 1 ton diesel rangers here,or had v8's they'd still be selling lots of them

The S-10 still exists, just under the name, colorado (or canyon for the gmc truck). Contrary to some beliefs, Ford engineers ARE in fact smoking crack. AND they have a sick sense of humor. I doubt many ir any of you have, but i am privy....for one example, look under the hood of a new 08 super duty with a 6.4L diesel. Someone, somewhere wasnt completely right in the head when they shoved all that crap in that space with so much of it uner the cowl. I swear that the engineers and designers are all sitting around tokin on a giant water bong, trying to figure out new ways to screw with us ford techs. Its insane, INSANE i tell you.

Yup, that's EXACTLY what they are doing.

I never understood the mentallity behind this. I may be completely out of touch with reality (I doubt it), but who cares if Ford wants to discontinue the Ranger? I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

It would be sad to see the Ranger go but I wouldn't buy a new one anyway. As it was said before I concur that it is tough to compare a 4.0 Ranger to a fullsize, it will only get worse if they make it bigger.

Fact is, my life demands a truck. I can do more, haul more, and go more places with a truck than I would ever could in a car. Ever tried crossing flooded roads that come up to the cab. Can't say that I could do that in a car.

But as long as my 96' 2.3L Ranger lives on, I will never let her go. And if that day every comes, I pray the Ranger will still be around.

It's easy to work on the trans. I'll have one out in 1/2 hour. As for engine work, pull the cab off. Then it's wide open.
