No mid-range power

whats the symptoms of a wrongly set float? also it just feels like its kinda having a hard time taking off. 0-25 is fine, but between 25-55 sux, takes forever and alot of throttle (3/4 throttle). once i lock the t/c at 55 its easily goes 55-75. its just getting there that it feels down on power. dunno if its a trans prob or what. feels like the stall speed is high, kinda like its slipping but shifts fine(revs high hardly any movement. trans fluid is spot on, no leaks or anything. but im getting a tap tap tap(clicking kinda sound) sound from the bellhousing area at all engine speeds. when i did the rear main, flexplate seemed fine(no cracks or anything). i get some vibes until i lock the t/c. i found a 1800 stall speed converter from patc i thought about getting(stocks close to 2600?) any ideas what that issue could be with the trans noises?

My truck is the same way, 25-? it lacks the will to get up and go, have to get it to three grand before I shift into forth. Fastest I've had it with my duraspark and SAS is 50mph and it struggled to get to there, kinda like its towing a huge load. Kinda scared to take it on a highway knowing it struggles like this.

Have tried messing with the timing. The 2.8 is no power house especially in third gear as long as it has a steady gain about half throttle on a flat road. try retarding the timing a little at a time it could be your damper lying to you. I have mine set at 5 degrees right now and runs pretty good. It is at 15 degrees btdc with the advance plugged into manifold vacuum. I am gonna give that a try for fuel economy. You are running a holly 350 try messing with the float level maybe your running rich what jets are you running someone here will know what are best for the 2.8.

Yea after I set it at 5 degrees it runs just fine at all speeds and it no longer studders when I shut it down. I had to tweak the idle air screws to get the highest vacuum it is sitting at just above 16 hg at an idle and around 20 at 3000 rpm. It needs to be tweaked on the high idle on cold starts and seems to idle better at lights now. Just keep messing with it you will find the sweet spot. My compression is a little low but is is even so I`m gonna run it till it pukes.
