No high gears

I am new to the site. I was driving my '93 Ranger 4x4 and I shifted gears and gears did not engage. I am able to shift with no clutch and there is no noise at all. However in low 4 wheel drive it will engage? Any ideas where I should start?

Is it electric 4 x 4

Check the position of the selector shaft under the electric shift motor on the txfr case.

I can drive around in 4 wheel drive low with the front pulling. I have no gears in 4 wheel high or 2 wheel drive? So any ideas?

Sounds like your electric shift motor on the back of the transfer-case is stuck in 4low.

Pull the shift motor off and check if the selector shaft still turns, triangle shaped piece under the elec motor. If so your motor probable isn't functioning anymore, it's very common on these with the elec shift tcase.

You could also try backing up while you try and shift it into 4high or 2wd, this will help relieve the tension on the gears and hopefully allow it to engage.

I think he means that the truck isn;t moving in 2wd... or 4 high... with sounds like the t case is messed up liek the gear for 4 low will engage and creat turning of the vehicle.

I don't know T cases very well but I am going to assume some how the straight trough gear broke and when it goes to low it bypasses the broken gear or shaft and get power to the front while the broken shaft spins in the case aimlessly...
