97 ranger xlt super cab (just bought it)

High beam indicator on the instrument cluster does not light up when high beam lights are on.

This vehicle does not appear to have working daytime running lights.

I thought every new vehicle sold in the last 15 or so years was required by law to have DRL (but what do I know).

Past experience with a 97 Taurus taught me that Ford used crappy short-lived DRL modules made in the U.K. When the module blows the high beam dash indicator does not light up.

The wiring diagram in my Haynes manual does not show a DRL module in the headlight circuit for 95 and newer Rangers.

What's up??

Does this vehicle not have DRL?

Is the DRL module blown knocking out the highbeam indicator?

Is the HB indicator bulb burned?

Where is the DRL module located on this vehicle?

No daytime running lights on that truck. I don;t think ford put them on rangers until the 2007 model year.

Most likely a burned out indicator lamp.

The wiring diagram for the 94 has DRL as an option, but strangely the wiring diagram for the 95 and newer has no mension of DRL.

Turns out my ranger does have DRL. If I lay on my back under the forward part of the front driver's fender and look up, I can see the module. I guess that is where Ford likes to hide them. That is where it is on my 97 Taurus. This link http://www.fordf150.net/howto/drl.php#resistor describes bypassing the module on an F150. The dealer says the module for my Ranger costs $150. Think I'll get the aftermarket DRL module for $27 and do a bypass circuit on the Ranger DRL module connector to get my High Beam Indicator light back.
