87 Ranger 2.9 4x4 - Okay the thing has been the farm truck for about 6months but with snowmaggedon here we got it tagged and what not. Ran fine for an entire day... and all the times on the farm. Yesterday it just cranks no start:dunno:, it'll run with starter fluid spray. took off the fuel filter closest to the engine and no gas would come out with key on, or cranking. Replace fuel pump relay just now nothin. And i cant here the pump turning on anymore. O and the biggest thing is we put all new tank/pump(the stuff inside the tank) about 8months ago.... anyideas thanks guys!

Check the fuel pump relay...and the TFI (aka ignition module)...& the inertia switch

Does the TFI control fuel or spark?.... cause its got plenty of the lightning. Seeing as when i spray starting fluid in the intake itll start up and run as long as im doing it...

Yes the TFI does have a fuel pump control element of somekind. when mine was giving me fits ....I left the key to the "ON" position I would unplug the TFI. every time I pluged the TFI back in the Fuel Pump would re-prime.

if the relays are all good & inertia switch too...retest the TFI
then it down to checking wires, grounds, and connections

it seems it must be down to checking stuff.................... ethier that or the 1st filter is clogged, but i think youd still here the pumps with that. Arg. a 16 layers of snow and the old 4x4 i moving an inch.

as far as your pump is concerned you shouldnt be able to hear it untill the safty neatural switch is bridged or replaced i bridged mine with a taggo switch works great now, ill bet you thats the problem i hope it's on the passenger side on the floor board where every wet foot has been.

does the TFI have that much controll i would replace all ground wires tats what im doing.
