ok i have a 1997 ranger, 4.0 L, transmisson model 5r55e, when i ran an OBD test, it said to replace the speed sensor, which i did, but that didnt fix the problem which is:
truck runs fine, when in park/reverse/neutral, as soon as i shift in to a forward gear, the engine dies. it will drive in reverse, but in any forward gear it studders and dies, i can get it to drive in D but it is real jerky and dies after a few feet, and takes some hard gassing. any idea what could be causing this problem?

its a long shot, but it could be the valve body applying press. to all forward drums at once and causing binding and locking up. its the only thing i can think of.

you can replace the valve body, its alot cheeper than a trans rebuild and you dont have to pull the trans.

thanks a lot, ill check that out right away. how would i check that?
