Hello all,

I just purchased a 2000 Mazda b2500, and just got done doing a complete tune up and got everything put back together. When I turned the key to start it, it cranked for about a half a second - then I heard a *pop* noise. Now, I've got no power to anything, it wont crank, no nothing. I pulled out my voltmeter, and I've got power at the starter, but I'm not sure where to go from here. I've heard there is a fusible link installed somewhere in-line, but I can't see it, nor can I see anything burned, black, or even anything smelling like electrical burn. Any ideas/help?

Thanks!
Jeremy

youve got power at the battey when the key is on or off? do you have a good ground from the frame/body to the engine? have you checked you engine fuse panel for a blown ignition fuse?

I've got power at the battery when the key is off - haven't checked with the key on. I've also checked all the fuses in the distribution block, and none are blown. I looked over a few of the gounding points between the engine and the chassis, but it was 1am last night. I'll look again when I get home today. Are there any other things I might be overlooking?

Thanks for the input!

There should be a solenoid either on the firewall or mounted directly to the starter. MAKE SURE YOUR TRUCK IS IN PARK OR NEUTRAL WITH THE BRAKE ON. Try jumping the terminals on the solenoid and see if it will turn over. Other than that, just start tracing the wires with your VOM untill you lose power all together.

Could your starter be toast. If you have power at the starter and you check the solonoid(relay) and that has power and is working. In my truck relay #6 in my distribution box is for the starter. I bet it is the same on your truck. If it is't that relay I would think that would narrow it down to the starter

I just reread your post. You said you it happened right after you finished a "tuneup" retrace your steps. Is there anything that did not get put back correctly etc etc
