no drive but have R 2 AND 1

I have a 99 ranger 4 x 4 , trans code t , long story short son took it while i was at work and stuck it in the mud beat hell out of it to get it out overheated engine and trany now i dont have drive ,reverse ,2 and 1 st work just fine but no drive do i need new trans?
