Hi All...

Just got my new-ish Ranger (1990) this week and I find the dash lights don't work. :-) Not a HUGE issue, but....

What does work: Most of the indicator lights, turn signals, battery, anti-slip, etc...

The fuse "appears" to be okay, but I'll recheck this afternoon. There is a green wire w/female spade connector hanging loose behind the fuse. I haven't noticed anywhere it might connect, but more research this PM.

The main light switch operates very stiffly (when rotating to adjust the dash illumination). Bad switch?

I've looked at the wiring diagram, but nothing jumps out.

Hoping for a bit of wisdom from y'all!

Many thanks,

Amanda

Edit: I put this in the wrong place. SORRY!!!!!

Yes, I would suspect the light switch, you can pull it and test with OHM meter but I would just replace it and see, especially if it "feels funny", trust your gut, lol.

If the switch doesnt fix it,try running a jumper wire(positive/hot)to your panel. Our trucks are different model years but,I had a similiar problem.Good luck

If the park lights are working then it is probably the light switch rheostat especially if it is not turning easy. Replaceing the light switch can be tricky even if you have done it. Disconnect the battery and on the new light switch you will see a little metal button you need to push that button in at the same time push and pull on the light switch knob until it pops all the way out. remove the screw that holds the switch in then position the switch to pull the connector off. Put it back together and make sure the knob is fully into the switch by pressing the button until it locks in place fully in and operates correct. GL

Yup... I sort of suspected the switch. :-(

Rechecked the fuses and they're okay. Noticed that the switch won't turn on the dome light unless the parking/headlights are turned on. (Switch pulled out to the first or second position).

I do appreciate all your suggestions!!!!!!

Amanda
