I have a wrecked 2000 Mazda B2500 5 speed I bought without a dash. I see the 98 dash harness I have uses all 3 firewall plugs, while the 2000 Mazda uses only the bottom two. All I want to do is make the 2.5 run for a few minutes to see if it is OK, then put it in my 89 for a kind of flatbed farm truck. (duallie? or chrome splash rims) I have 98 and 99 wiring diagrms. If they are the same I think I can figure it out, but I don't want to smoke the Powertrain Control Module.

No fuse panel is in the truck, but I have one on my 98 wiring harness. I know I have to power up all of the relays in the power dist. box, to make the fuel pump work. If I send power to the dist box, how do I do it? Will it make the gauges work?

Can I start the engine without having the dash and its parts, rap module ect....

Can I supply the PCM with 12 VDC through a spare fuseblock to get ignition?

Are the color codes for the dash and firewall plugs the same on a 98-99 and a 2000?
If it's different, can someone send me or direct me to a 2000 engine control wiring diagram?

Thanks a bunch you guys are all great. Dave its John from OK from a few years ago.

Hey John, a new project, eh?

I'll have to dig out the diagrams myself to be doubly sure but, you should be able to power up the engine without a cluster. You just have to supply the engine/chassis harness with the correct connections (+12V (switched and unswitched), ground, etc). I don't think a 2000 will have an active PATS (chip in the key) system so the PCM shouldn't care that there is no ignition switch.

Hi Dave good to hear from you after all this time. Yeah it's always something. I bought a wrecked 99 Supercab 4x4 off road since I got snowed in so bad last year(in Oklahoma!) It needs a core support, radiator, fender, grille, hood,etc.. Well I bought this wrecked Mazda for parts and thought I'd mess with the engine a little bit since it only has 70 K on it. Maybe sell it or put it in my 89 yard decoration and make a farm truck. I used the tires, 2.5 radiator & fan in my 98, and will probably use the rotors and some brake parts on the 98. I never got the 98 running, due to not figuring out the fuel pump situation. The 96 and 98 have different fuel systems, are wired differently and have different fuel pumps. The 98 tank opening spans about 7 inches and the 96 fuel pump I want to use has about a 4 inch diameter cover on it. I am close to making up some kind of adapter. I also have installed the complete 96 wiring harness. I also got delayed by a delinquent daughter that liked getting into trouble and dragging me along with her, but thats enough about that.

Back to the work of making it run. Can I take the connectors out of the top connector C134 and install them in the lower dash side to meet connectors C135 and C136? Or are they even in there?
in positions to make them match up with the Mazda firewall plug?

Do you have any wiring diagrams for the 2000 ranger or Mazda or do you know if they are the same as a 99?

I know, I know, I need to now get a Ford Truck Workshop manual CD for the 2000. :nopityA: Maybe I will soon, but the other trucks are still keeping me busy, when it's not snowing or raining. I also had heart surgery so I haven't been able to do anything for a long time. But like Judge Harry Andersons dad (John Aston) always says, "I'm much better now" and I am getting back into truck fun.

Thanks! John

Dave, my 99 Ranger has the PATS I believe, because it has the big key. I only have one key. Can I disable the pats module so I can use a standard ace hardware type key?

I don't THINK yours has the fully active system. There should be a sensor on the steering column near the key lock cylinder. If there isn't then you probably don't need a special key. Though my wife's '03 Ranger works fine with the sensor unplugged, go figure.
