Ive recently came across a 97-98 ford explorer, auto 2wd 2door, with about 180k on it. Power everything, its a real clean ride. Im considering purchasing it but theres a problem. The woman who owns said she went to crank it one day jus to drive it around the block cause she no longer uses it much and the battery was dead and nothin happend so she didnt worry bout it and it sat bout a month or more, well i tried to crank it with a jump box but it jus wont start. the battery is completely shot and im not sure the jump box is supplyin enough powers, it turns it over and its tries to start but it jus wont, like it jus needs a lil more.

Any idea if its somethin other than the battery jus bein dead and the computer is not allowing it to start because theres not enough voltage? Im not very familiar with these explorers.

Its a good deal i jus gotta pay what she owes on it, which she said probably isnt but maybe 600-800 dollars.

I've seen situations on older cars where a jump box just can't get thru a dead battery. I've also seen situations where a car was parked with only a little bit of fuel in the tank and it all vaporized and so it just won't fire over. Make sure there is gas in the tank, liquid gas, and if the engine still won't fire over let your jump box sit on it for a few minutes, then try again. If its not working after that there may be some other problem present, start by checking for spark and fuel pressure.

ok ill try that, should i be able to hear the fuel pump when i turn the ignition on, it said it had a 1/4 tank in it

Yes on the fuel pump, when you Key on, you should hear a buzz or a humming sound, faint for about 2-3 seconds depending on how empty the lines are.

i know jumpboxes are great BUT imho there is nothing better then a good old fashioned Jumper cable especially off of a 100+ amp alt.

Good luck
