No control of temp, cold or warm

About a month ago I had the first opportunity to use my heater, low and behold no heat. About a month previous I changed out the t-stat, this is on my 08 XL 2WD, 2.3DOHC, I thought possibly I did something under the hood, maybe to the hot water control valve, nope it was fine. After checking here for info I began to look into the blend door issue. I removed the blend door actuator and the door was moving smooth and easy. The truck has only 25,000 on it and just 4 years, I was glad the door seemed to be fine. I checked into the actuator, found a test procedure provided by another member and it tested bad. Purchased a new actuator from my Ford dealer after seeing warnings about using the after market variety. Installed it today and I now have control again. My actuator moves fine. I have a.c, and every vent mode works fine, I just cant control anything with the hot/cold dial in the middle. I am trying to find out how to test it. My 2008 has 3 wires that go to a harness connected to the switch, but I have noidea what I am to be testing for.
