so i just picked up a 92 ranger and was able to drive it home but the further and further i drove it got harder to get into gear. the next day i go to start it and it goes to drive forward with the clutch all the way in. Now i am a mustang guy so i have only dealt with cable clutches. I only got this truck as a beater/milage truck. i have tried every trick to bleed the clutch and nothing works. so what is wrong with this stupid thing? the clutch is new according to the guy i bought the truck from. so i will burn this thing down soon if i can't figure out a solution :icon_welder:

has the slave cylinder been bled? when i had my s10 i had air stuck in the slave cylinder in front of the bleed valve. Had to loosen the bleed valve, compress the slave cylinder with my hand and close the bleed valve before releasing it. Seems to me though if this was the problem it would have been trouble from the beginning.

Did the fluid leak down at all from the drive home?

The master cylinders are a pain in the ass. The easiest way Ive found to bleed them is bench bleed them. Take the whole assembly out of the truck with the line detached from the trans and the reservoir still hooked up so as the assembly is still pressurized. flip the master cylinder upside down so the metal rod that attaches to the clutch pedal is upside down and press the rod in and as it slides in take a screw driver and depress the small ball in the end of the hydrolic line that plug in to the slave cylinder on the trans, do this two or three times till u get the desired pressure, the more you do it the harder it should be to press in the rod. Of coarse make sure the resevior has plenty of fluid in it while your doing this. If you still cant get any pressure its time for a new master. If you have pressure from the start its time for a new slave(which sucks worse)

this is what i was afraid of. i really don't have much idea what you guys are talking about. i know what the slave cylinder is but what actually consists of the master cylinder.

The slave cylinder is actually in the bell housing. The master is mounted on the fire wall with the fluid reservoir attached and the line running to the trans

that was a really helpful video. now i at least know what consists of each part. would you guys recommend doing it with the system outside of the truck?

To answer your question directly. as joey did in the other thread he was able to bleed it after he installed the new MC. in your case chances are there is a leak in the slave or the MC it will have to be fixed.

since you had clutch and now nothing id recommend going under the truck, find the rubber access plug on the bottom of the trans (drivers side it pulls out). stick your finger in there (truck off of course) and see if you feel any fluid especially in the bottom of the pan area. if you do, i hate to tell you this but your slave cylinder is blown, can be picked up for about 50 bux. the real pain now is it cannot be changed without removing the transmission. 6 head engine bolts (two on top two on bottom and 1 on either side of the engine screwing into the trans, can be seen with the inner fenders pulled up) 3 starter bolts, two crossmember bolts, the 4 driveshaft bolts and two and shes undone. remove the upper and lower shift boots and shifter (use the nut on the backside and it pulls the bolt out.) the clutch input line has a quickdisconnect fitting. take a screwdriver and push the white plastic piece (may require some cleaning to see what im talking about) into the slave cylinder and pull the line (requires some force). also remove the 10mm bolt that holds the speedo cable into the trans. drop the trans and undo the 2 or 3 bolts holding it on the trans bellhousing, fill the new slave cylinder with fluid by removing the bleeder bolt, replace slave and install the trans reverse order of removal. bleed clutch as necessary.
