no 4x4 ? help !!

hi i have a 95 5anger xl with auto hubs the light on the dash comes on for 4 hi and 4 low but i have no 4x4. i can here the motor kick in and i have lots of torque in 4 low but i have no drive in the front wheels in either 4 hi or low. i baught the truck from an older guy who baught it new and said he only put it in 4x4 once in the years he owned it. what could my problem be ?

the automatic hubs are your problem. they are the most WORTHLESS things ford ever put on the ranger. swap them to manual lockers. either go to the junkyard and ask for a set of manual locking hubs w/ the proper wheel bearing nuts, or order a kit like this:

it comes with the hubs, and the new wheel bearing nuts. you will also need one of these: http://images.solidcactus.com/autobarn/xxxw-otc7270a.jpg (get that from your local auto parts store)

and a torque wrench that goes up to 150 ft lbs.

Yeah its the auto hubs, seeing as your getting the torque down low... That means your T case works properly, the hubs like many other parts of a vehicle will probably not work if they never get used...

You can go to the junkyard and find replacement auto hubs for less than 30 bux a pair. I go to pull-a-part here and ive been through 7 auto hubs. mostly cuz I had auto.manual guts mixed and matched. But its all fixed now and I use my autos on a regular basis whether or not I have to. They have to be used regular or they 'stick' in the unlocked position.
