Nissan Camper Shell

Now that I got my 92 Super cab Ranger through the smog test and licensed to drive, I have started to look for a camper shell. Finding it hard to locate a nice one that fits my vintage as the 93+ Rangers seem to have a wider bed in front and most of the shells I find are designed for the newer bed.

I did find a Snugtop from a 95 Nissan with a 6' bed that looks good but I wonder if anyone has put a Nissan shell onto a first gen Ranger and found that it not only fit but lined up well with the back of the cab and the angle of the cab doors.

Anyone have suggestions for other small truck camper shells that fit will on first gen Rangers?

You might check with someplace that sells toppers. They'd probably know what dimensions fit which makes/models/years. Other than that you just have to measure inside and outside of your bed and compare to what you're looking at to see how it'll fit.

Check Topperking and see what they have or go to a truck shop. I had one on my 83 Ranger years back and it was a topper that fit Nissan, Toyota and Rangers with the same bed size. I bought it from a truck accessory place new.

A Nissan topper should fit, but it won't match your cab dimensions. I have a Nissan topper on my 93 XLT supercab and it fits okay but it's shorter than the cab top and narrower too. Don't care about that, though...not into style. Be patient and check Craigslist a lot.

The 93+ Rangers have a bed that is 2" wider in the front than the back. That probably explains why the old Nissan shell was narrower than the 93 Ranger cab however it was probably just the right width at the tail gate.

I've got a 92 so it might be the correct width for my narrower cab. It's also a hi-rise shell so even through it might not line up exactly with my cab height since it rises quickly it probably won't be noticeable.

Only real issue will be the length. If it wasn't too long for your 93 it might just fit my 92 even though the 92 bed is about 1/2 shorter than the 93 bed.

Thanks for the info. I'll try and go for this Nissan shell.

Well that explains the tapered look the topper has looking toward the cab from the tailgate...wonder why the bed on mine is wider behind the cab that at the tailgate??? Someone was drinkin' that day I guess. I took the little blue Nissan topper that I bought for $50, sanded it down lightly, spray-bombed it with self-etching primer, then hit it spray bomb the same color as my Ranger (the green aqua-marine color). Looks really good, but I shoulda' wet sanded it afterwards...the top surface is not exactly smooth...but I like it.

Actually, the newer trucks are a little more shapely aerodyanmics wise so that's why the bed is tapered. As long as you can get a 4x8 sheet of material in the back, you are OK.
