My buddy had a customer who had a 3L Nissan engine in his Aerostar (8-10 yr ago?)The same engine I had in my 1/4ton truck.Does anyone know how long Ford used this engine, what vehicles it was in??Mine had 357k Km (210k Mi) on it when I sold it and didn't burn any oil.It would bury the needle even with my 4 wheeler in the back easily.

ford never put a nissan engine in any ford vehicle.

I don't remember the Aerostar using anything different that what was available in the Ranger and Explorer. Maybe it was a Mercury Villager (Nissan Quest twin)?

.

The ford aerostar came with ford 3.0 I think maybe possible a select few came with 4.0 but ive never seen one.

The 3.0 was standard, the 4.0 was listed in the shop manual, but those were manuals that were shared with the Ranger. I think I saw a 4.0 Aerostar once, but I'm not sure. It's been a while since I've seen one at all.

Ford never used a Nissan engine in any in-house vehicle. The only Nissan engine they ever used was in the Villager, the 3.5L V-6. And that's because it was a Nissan built POS.

If he saw an Aerostar, with a Nissan 3.0, it wasn't there from the factory.

I had a 90 aerostar extended length had the 4.0 in it.

A friend of mine bought an old aerostar thinking he'd use the engine to replace the blown one in his ranger and was told by a ford dealership mechanic it wasn't the same 3.0 as the ones in the ranger. This was about 7 years ago now.

Villager used a Nissan 3.0L on the first gen and the 3.3L version on the second gen. Then it was discontinued and replaced by a windstar/freestar clone. Monterey I think.

This is about the right 'time frame'.I'll find out from my bud.I'm not a great mechanic,in a knowledgeable sense, but it was definately a Nissan 3L,"same as in my" Nissan truck.I saw it,mounted transversely.

the dealer was either wrong or lied.

a Rear Wheel Drive 3.0 earlier than 1993 would need to have the oil pan and oil pump pickup replaced because the pan on a 1993-up is different
(interference between the pan and the axle pivot bracket)

And obviously the exhaust manifolds and accessory brackets differ, but a 3.0Vulcan-RWD engine is a 3.0VulcanRWD engine.

the TAURUS FWD engine is internally different and has a different lower intake

4.0 Aerostars are rather common if you know where to look.
I've owned three over the years and still have one.
(currently with a bad t-case)

The AWD Aerostars are exclusively 4.0's but there are some 4.0 RWD aerostars floating about...

the only difference between an Aerostar 4.0 engine and a Ranger/Explorer 4.0 engine is the exhaust manifolds which are unique to the Aerostar.

Thats what he probably meant...now that you mention it, he was trying to put the engine in a '87 ranger..and I think the aerostar was newer than '93. Good call:icon_thumby:

I just checked with my bud;it was a 92 Villager with 3L Nissan engine. What vehicles(year/model) had the Yamaha 3L in them? Were they good engines??
