Where this camera really performs (and is the industry leader) is in
HIGH ISO performance. Just a little education, ISO with a digital camera is like ASA for film. The HIGHER the ISO, the higher the sensitivity to light. The MAX ISO on my Nikon D70 is 1600 (bought in 2005). The MAX ISO on my Nikon D300 is 6400 (bought in 2008). The MAX ISO on the D3S is 102,400 (yes, 102.4K). What the ISO setting actually does is control the gain of the pixel amplifiers, so the pixel signal is amplified. The problem, any amplifier has a S/N ratio
(signal to noise ratio) so noise is also amplified. You will see this
when you take photos at the higher ISO settings. Dpreview did a
noise vs ISO test on the Nikon D300s, Nikon D3, Nikon D3s, and Canon 1D MK4. As you can see from the attached graphs, the D3s
blew them all away!

Yeah, I am a Canon Shooter. I wished I had Nikon equipment. I feel like Canon just puts out their stuff and we the consumer are the testing ground, where as Nikon seems to really take their time and make sure their equipment is working perfectly for the Professional Photographer. Oh well, I am retired from professional work now, so I can just relax and take pics of birds
