Hey Guys,
I went over to the N.E. car show today with my mom, and talked with a Ford Trucks rep for a little over an hour. He was really informative, and knew a lot about the future of Ford's truck line.
I talked to him about the Ranger, and here's what I got. The Ranger WILL be continued; it is not being dumped. It will maintain a truck body (ladder frame) and a solid rear axle. It will be getting a major redesign with new options, including a new V6 and a possible 4x4 w/ 4cyl option. The 5 speed manual will still be an option on ALL models.
He said there's a lot of excitement over the Ranger in Detroit, and that he couldn't say what Ford has in store in terms of specifics because of confidentiality issues. However, he hinted at...wait for it...a TURBODIESEL option being on the table. From what I gathered, Ford is working with the government to reduce emissions requirements for diesels in order to bring over the 4 banger diesel from Europe. Pretty cool.
Anyway, he said look out in January for new updates at the Detroit Auto Show.
