Newer motor for 96 Ford Ranger

I remember reading that the odometer mileage indicated can be changed by dealer mechanics. I think the same machine that changes the internal 'ratio' number for speedometer & odometer when tire sizes or differential ratios are changed can set the mileage. Dealer.

hello, again I wanted to let everyone in on a update. The Cluster came in yesterday and I was kinda of pissed when I found out that the trip meter was broken, because with the trip meter broke the mileage won't work. However, I got to searching eBay and calling around to my local part stores to see if I could get the broken speedometer drive gear, and the part stores wanted anywhere from 42 to 50 bucks which was expensive for a peace of plastic. and ebay wasn't much better, Then a idea hit me it's a ford part, and ford used the same parts on many different cars and trucks. Well I looked up the same part only for a 95 Taurus and I found a listing on ebay for 6 bucks for the gear that I need. I also, noticed that there was several bulbs blown out so I contacted the part stores once again and they wanted 5.30 cent a pack multiply that by 24 bulbs which is 63.6 which is expensive as well. and ebay was looking no better either until I decided to look up bulb type in stead of vehicle, anyway I bought 10 #194 led bulbs which are t10 for 4 bucks and 20 #37 led bulbs for 6 bucks which are T5.
I did contact the seller and he did refund me 40 bucks back considering it was broke and I had to order the parts to fix it.

This new cluster has a tach but there was no red line, so I took a red and black sharpie ultra fine point and marked one in.

here is the link to the speedometer drive gear if anyone needs one.

also I noticed that I can hook a rubber ban around the mileage gear and connect the other end to a drill and I can run the mileage up to meet what the computer reads.

here are a few photos of the drew in red line.

If that was free-hand, you have found a new occupation. Looks sharp.

Yes it was freehand and thank you. Sometime this week or the first of next week I'll be installing it into the truck. I'm thinking about taking photos of the job and build a work log of the truck. Now that I think about it I wish I could change the name of this post.

There is a section for build threads that is probably better suited than this section. I have been intending to post up mine but the longer I wait the less interested I am of rehashing the old build.

Funny how putting so much time, money, and energy into something can fly out the window before we realize it...fun while I was dong it though...so carry on and get at it...:)

This may be a little late now, but I have the odometer/trip numbers in working order and can set them to what you need. If you're interested, PM me, I can get it to you for all of $10!

thanks for the offer, But I decided to just write the current mileage on a post it and add the difference from the od I bought.

well I spent all day trying to put in the cluster and it was a no go. All because the check engine light wouldn't come one, I replaced the bulbs and re-replaced the bulbs and no luck, however the gauges work as intend so did all the other lights. and Ideas to the cause, I took the old cluster and put it back in the truck withe the new bulbs. and at first the check engine light didn't come on but I replaced the led with the halogen and it started working with the old cluster. I did swap the new one back in and tried that bulb I new worked but nothing. any Ideas to why this is happening.
