i've been taking my seats out and in of the truck alot lately since i've been doing a sub box and console, and i noticed that when the seat belt harness isnt connected the air bag light comes on. then i was thinking, what would happen if someone with a newer model truck wanted different seats? how would you get the light to turn off? is there a way to trick the module into thinking the harness is connected but simply splicing the wires together to complete the circuit close to the box or is it way more complicated than that? i was also wondering this because i was thinking of taking up the rubber floor and herculining the inside of the truck but i didn't want alot of wires thrown about and wanted to remove the ones that go to the seats. ANYWAY, long story short, i was just curious about how the whole system works and if there's any way to remove/trick it. (i think i had an earlier post similar to this but i thought i might try and explain my thought process a little better).

I've been curious about this too, especially since the newest ones have a weight sensor built into the seat turns the airbag on/off automatically based what is likely sitting there (adult or car seat).

i hate electronics in cars haha i'd take a pre-80's car over any of the newer ones.. no computers no crazy sensors just a gas guzzling hunk of metal

I am in the process os swapping 09 mustan seats into my 03 ranger. and let me tell you its a pain in the butt to get the seat rails off the ranger seats.

haha do you have to drill out all the mounting points? i thought about it but decided to just modify the existing seats- goodbye headrests and bench

the seat back is riveted to the rails, so if you unbolt it at the pivot you have to cut the brackets off the rails.

i dont know what the back of the cluster looks like on anything newer than 97, but i think you could just pull the bulb behind the abs light? maybe its more complicated like an LED on a circuit board.

it's a built in led on mine, not comming out, but its not the light that bothers me it just the fact that the computer recognises it as a problem. cant pass inspection with an error code and a "faulty" light..

im gonna bump this. just put some 04 sport trac seats in my 05 xlt. you cant splice the wires, it doesnt work. any other ideas? i dont really want to solder the wires direct. also there are 4 wires coming out of the driver's harness in the truck, but only 2 wires on the new driver's side seat. anyone know which wires on the driver's side do what? 3 green and one black.

black is probably ground, not sure about the green ones. might be power source for a powered seat if you have/had one and the seat belt sensor

Hey guys.

I'm new around here, but I'm wondering a very similar question. I have a 96 Ranger with a 60/40 split bench, problem is the bench is thrashed, but I don't want the bench anyway. Would buckets from a newer Ranger work? Like a 2004 or something like that?

I don't really want to get too heavy into fabrication or anything like that, just interested in upgrading the seats for now.

Thanks,

Alex

I believe the harness is for seatbelt pre-tensioners. If you crash, the seatbelts tighten up. It works with the airbag system, which would explain the airbag light.

I'm looking through wiring diagrams to find the answer about the wires. Anyone have any input on newer style ranger seats in older rangers? I'm interested as well since mine are pretty trashed. I have a 97 regular cab and I'm about 5'8".

Is this (C219) the connector you are looking for info on?

yeah c219 is the one. i ended up pulling the seat belt assemblies off of my 60/40 seats, as well as the sliders, so its all working like a charm now. finally put my center console in too, man these seats are so much nicer!

thanks for the help everybody.
