hi- just picked up a 99 w/ 151 K. Just a few minor issues :icon_thumby:
1) Emergency brake pedal floopy. Thinking broken cable? Ideas? Difficult to fix?
2) Temp gauge dead. Ideas?

Want to change all fluids especially oil with Schaeffers( i am a Schaeffers Rep). What grade typically run( did not get manual) .

Also would like to change our tranny ( 5 speed) lube and rear end lube with our Schaeffers gear lube. How difficult to do?
Thanks

You should be able to see if the cable is borken it runs along the outside of the driverside frame rail. I've never replaced one but a typical DYI weedender should be no problem the most difficult part would be reattaching it in the rear brake drum. Which is something to look for if the peddle is floopy it may not be attached in the drum.

Temp gauge most likly bad senser, or look for any bad or not attached wiring.

I ran 5w-20 in the winter and 5w-30 in the summer. I Belive Ford recommends 5W-20.

Never changed tranny fluid but I know it takes 4.8 pints of 80-90w gear lube.

The rear end you unbolt cover let in drain. Clean of old gasket put on a new gasket bolt on cover take out fill plug pour in gear lube till you can see it in the plug hole reinstall plug.

Many rear ends just call for a bead of RTV sealant, no gasket.

The trans has two plugs on the driver side, one fill, one drain. Remove the fill first, just in case it gives you trouble, you won't have an empty trans and a stuck filler plug.

The newer M5OD 5 speed transmissions take ATF not gear oil like the old TK's and FM's.

Rear diff takes 80w90 or whatever it says... thats what I use and if you have L/S add the recommended friction modifier or run full synthetic.

Oil is 5w20 or 5w30... also would recommend a coolent flush, fuel system flush, and a tune up.

Floppy parking brake pedal is likely a stuck cable. The sheath rusts around the cable and it gets bad enough that it will no longer let the cable itself move when you release the brake. Look below the truck on the driver side: is the cable hanging down loose, or is it tight? If it's drooping down at all, replace the cables. All of them, because they're going to need it. Mine did.

Temp gage is likely the most obvious: bad sending unit or bad connection at the sender (corrosion). Cheap and easy to fix.

can you give me an approximate idea of where the sending unit / connection is for the temp gauge?

Looks like your temp sender is right in the front, look for it have a red wire with white stripe, and a black wire with a white stripe.

Don't confuse it with the PCM's ECT, it has GY/RD and LG/RD wires.

Sorry Jeff, I kinda forgot about this thread.

Is the spring that returns the e-brake pedal into its fully off position (when the brake release handle/lever under the dash is pulled) actually inside the brake drum, or is that spring in the pedal assembly?

Thanks.

It has both.

I don't think the spring on the drum assembly itself will have enough "throw" to fully return the pedal to full up, so suspect the pedal spring. It probably just snapped off.

Just dont forget if its a limited slip rear end you will need to add a friction modifier to it
