I'm new to Rangers and the forum here. I'm looking for some thread help on pulling, rebuilding etc... a 99 Ranger 2.5L engine. Sounds like a rod knock and possible blown head gasket. Thanks!

If you don't know how to do it yourself you need to have it done for you. Maybe buy another complete low milage running motor and get it installed. You should get a Haynes or a Clinton's manual for your year truck and use it. You need to have the proper tools for doing a rebuild as well. Torque wrench, compression tester...etc.

are you looking at a full rebuild, or are you looking to service the crank shaft, bearings and/or rods? You first need to take it apart to assess what is wrong before you buy anything. It's really easy to screw things up if you don't know what you're looking for. It would be best to take your engine into a shop and have them look over what you have if you're not sure. The best guide you can find for pulling your engine is the Ford shop manual, it is step-by-step and very detailed.

Thanks for the help. I'm good with the process of pulling and rebuilding. I've rebuilt and restored several classic mustangs. I was looking for any threads where people have possibly posted on this specific rebuild. I just wanted to read it before I started just to make sure there were no tips specifically to this application that might help as I get started. Thanks!
