newbie needing ranger tech advice!! 1928 model A pickup with 99 ranger running gear

a ranger 5spd wouldn't fit?

More likely the pedals won't fit, small foot box. If the trans tunnel needed to be widened that would just make it smaller.

i wish i could buddy but foot room wont allow it. it dont bother me to much since its not really a "hot rod" per say. just want a dependable gas saving daily driver/cruiser but everything else i got are sticks.

Build it YOUR way.........we'll watch........great set of pics---it took me a while to get em all in one post once I learned how to stick a pic on the screen.

Rename it ranger something and watch the help come in.

Build the ranger that should have been

Don't let the haters bother you. That is the COOLEST drivetrain you can put in that truck! Everyone and their brother puts a V8 in. Yawn. I'd rather see something different that most people don't do. And modern engines with fuel injection are so much better than old carbed engines IMO. Keep it fuel injected!

Very nice. Was the old frame rotted? It looks like you've got quite a bit of time in it.

A TRS member hooked me up with that....I had to modify it a little to fit my hood(s).....not telling YOU to do it or anything ;missingteeth;

wow thanks for the positive feedback guys. i was afraid of getting flammed on here for it not tech being a ranger motor in a ranger or a ranger with some kinda v8 cookie cutter thing.
to answer some of the questions the frame was not rotted out but was twisted. ford frames from 1909-1931 relied heavly on the frame to twist way more than they do now (there were no paved roads) so the suspension of back then gave alittle and the frame gave alittle. now a days the suspension does most work and frames are stiffer so thats what i wanted to do with this truck....a 1928-29 ford ranger you could say. the OEM frame will be used for a traditional hot rod model A im collecting parts for

i will be keeping the fuel injection in it for obvious reasons. if i cant get the stock stuff to work( which i think i can with help) ill go to one of those megasquirt systems. v8 stuff is cool but holy shit it bores the hell out of me. everything i have is v8 along with everything at shows are v8s. v8 rangers and s10s a way too common around my area as it is. i thought the banger motor will be the perfect set up for this truck for gas for ease for looks and for the haters.

josht got it right.....the cab on a model A truck is prob the smallest cab youll ever sit in. lets face it people were smaller back then so i assume thats why the cars were also. the automatic is way easier to put in and besides it already came with the donor ranger. for all the guys who are anti automatics picture this......take a stock standard ranger cab and cut it in half the length and width.....add 6 inches and thats how small a model A truck cab is. not only would it be hard to do and uncomfortable but it would eat up way to much foot room for it to be drivable any more than 15 min. and this truck is a cruiser so it just makes since to keep it simple and enjoy the ride.

thanks for all the feed back ill post more pics as time goes on.

Well no matter what anyone on here says to you I for on am quite impressed and overall a bit envious. I would dearly love to have something like that as a daily driver. Keep us updated on the progress. Can't wait to see it when it is finished.

Nice project. Which Ranger tank are you using? The standard cab short wheel base has a smaller tank that might work for you. I think it's 17 gal.
Where are you trying to put the tank? Under the cowl? In the bed? Ever been on the H.A.M.B.? Im sure you be able to figure something out that will work. You could even fab a tank up if you had to.

thanks panama

dune runner ...i have the oem tank i took from the donor ranger which was a 4 cyl standard cab with regular length bed, so your prob right on it being that small 17 gal one. its still about a foot to long.
i wanted to use the stock model A tank in the cowl but im not sure if it would work. so my next idea was to maybe fing one i can put under the bed but as last resort i guess i could put one in the bed.
im really thinking im gonna have to build the tank from scratch and use the stock sending unit and prob gonna have to build a bowl that will fit in the tank like the stock one.

Yah, I was wondering why you werent using the cowl tank. I dont know the finer points of the '99 fuel pump requirements ,but The Bosch systems I use have a pump that is regulated down to 37 psi, 2.5 bar. My particular car has an intank pusher pump to get gas to the main pump , but isnt the cowl tank a gravity feed? Anyway, that is the way I would go. :D
