Hi.

I'm about to swap in a new engine into my truck. It's a 1,000 mile engine from a wrecked '06 Ranger. Mileage confirmed by both the odometer and the amount of time the engine has been in inventory at the yard(on the shelf, pulled on arrival).

Hoping to have the following questions answered for me:

Is it okay to just run Synthetic engine oil right off the bat?

Is it okay to run a tuner(Rogue Performance Xcal2) right off the bat? If not, how long should I wait? 3-5k on the engine?

Swap should be next week, or at least within' the month(by sept) picking up my engine on Monday.

Thanks!

Shane

Many engines run synthetic right from the start. My dad's Z06 was synthetic. The M3 I am looking at used it form the factory too.

it shuld be fine to run Syn right away, i've never heard of anyone having problems with it

I use synthetic from the 1st oil change. Still use 5w30 even with 189,000 on it. It may be expensive but crude doesn't compare.

Why not? It's oil, as long as you change it at the specified intervals it doesn't really matter... Now, if you had a high performance vehicle that spun at 8-9k rpm all day long I could understand, but for a truck, I think it's overkill... I run synthetic on my Camaro, not becuase I think it frees up horsepower or will make the engine last longer, but because I don't feel like getting underneath that thing every 3k miles... IMO, the only thing synthetic oil is good for in a daily driven car is extending service intervals... I can do an oil change on my truck in 15 minutes so it gets dino oil...

Mkay...now that that's covered...how about my second part? Running a tuner right out the gate(after I get it running of course).

All my fluids are synthetic currently in the truck, I've just not had a brand new engine before(late model)....my chevy I ran that Royal Purple break-in oil after I went through it.

You will be fine with the tuner Shane.
