New toy: 4.0 OHV supercharged

Some of you here seem to be on-board with what I am doing here, and some seem to be showing distaste, even light hostility for me claiming to be a "ford tech". If I'm not welcome here, please inform me, I'll pack up and leave.

Just ignore that shit, you'll get a lot of that on the internet. Run with what you have, Gen-II would be a good donor truck. I think a Gen-I would be cooler though since they never came with 4.0Ls. Looking forward to seeing you get that motor into something and running. Did it come with a wiring harness and PCM?

Sorry to offend i didn't mean it in that way. the way I meant it was that it struck me odd that a ford tech would be coming in here to ask about a motor that ford has. From the block # 90TM it is more than likely a standard run of the mill. I could wrong. pictures would be a help. No need to pack up and think about leaving.

Yeah, I know I need to ignore it, but I'm not quite used to joining forums for my projects. Usually, I can watch from a distance and do what I need to do, but in this case I needed some more info. Anyway, I am a little torn between a Gen 1 and a Gen 2 truck. I'd like to start with a 4.0 truck so that I know everything will line up, bolt up, ect. I got a partial wiring harness and no PCM, so I don't know where to begin on wiring/tuning. I'll probably end up converting to an OBDII harness and PCM, but if I have to do that, starting with a 4.0 truck would only give me motor mounts and a flywheel to start with, and I've read that 2.9 mounts are the same. I'm not sure on the flywheel, though.
Finally did get some crappy cell-phone pictures. Maybe I'll pony up for a real camera before too long. Last picture is of the odd long leads on the back of the engine.

Jeez, you guys are going faster than I can keep up. Yes Angie, the blower is an M-62 that was used on the GM series 1 3800 supercharged. I happen to have another one and compared it, it is identical. It may turn out to be a little small, depending on how much boost it'll take. I'll probably go less than 10 psi, probably 6-8, so it should be alright.

You'd like that, wouldn't you? I have the oil pan off it, you can see in a few pictures. This thing is brand new on the inside. It's been run before, but not very much. There's no carbon buildup, nothing. Just a little dirty oil in the bottom of the pan. Everything else is just clean except carbon on the top of the pistons. Speaking of pistons, I used a bore scope to read the numbers inside the pistons, and I need to know if they are stock or not. They look very similar to the ones that should be in it according to the tech library, but I need to be sure. I will check at work tomorrow, but I don't really expect an accurate answer. Does anyone know a good way to identify them without removing them? The numbers I found are M279A, 100S126, and 100V28. They are Mahle pistons with a Ford logo cast into them, so they are likely stock.

Alright, here's a little update on my history check for this unit: Took one of the tags in with me to work today while trying to identify pistons(which I'm just going to assume are stock-ers). Handed it to one of the parts guy's for him to look at. There is a number on the bottom of the tag, which I though was just a cataloging number, didn't think much of it. He sees it, and says "I wonder if that's the last eight digits of a VIN". He plugged it into his computer, and sure enough, 1992 Explorer XLT 4-door, 4.0, auto, electronic shift-on-the-fly 4x4, 3.73 axle gears, limited slip rear end, ect, ect. I asked if he could give me the whole VIN, and sure enough, I've got it wrote down right here. Unfortunatly, being a 1992, I can't pull up anything on OASIS, our sales department says they have no way of checking anything that old, and parts department can't tell me anything else origin-wise. I've looked for VIN reporting services online, but I don't really want to pay $30-$40 for it if I don't really know if it will tell me what I need to know. I'd like to know who sold it, when it was delivered, who bought it, ect. Does anyone know of anything else I can use? Or would a carfax be worth the money?

Well, I'm trying to figure out who put this unit together. That tag says that it was owned by Ford. I just ponied up for the carfax report, and all it tells me is that is was manufactured and delivered to the original dealer on 08/19/1991. According to carfax, it was never even sold. I'm really looking for usless information, I know, but it would be neat to find the place who built this thing. Heck, I may even be able to track down some extra parts. It is worth the effort, if you ask me.
