New tools you've bought recently?

I have a Central Pneumatic needle scaler and a gigantic Ingersol Rand one too. The average user will never wear one out, they are basically just an air hammer with the needle tip on it. As far as tools go, they are one step up in simplicity from a chipping hammer. I use mine most for removing slag after stick welding in tight areas that I can't hit with a wire wheel and occasionally for really crusty rust removal. It is one of those tools that is used so infrequently that buying a "good" one doesn't make much sense (I got the IR one used and VERY cheap ;))

I love these things. 23.25" full lift, asphalt-saving feet, and while the jack is nearly as heavy as my engine hoist, it's a damn good jack. Threw in a set of box wrenches and almost bumped my head on the $300 mark. They work well, but a part of me misses the 20% off coupon in the back of the paper days.

I have several sets of those Daytona 6 ton jacks stands and I really like them. I’ve accumulated so many because they are still honoring the recall on the defective 6 ton ones from a few years ago… I have picked up 4 sets of those for less than $20/pair, traded in for new ones and bobs your uncle 😁

Nice. I should start doing that. I could use an uncle Bob.

Yeah, I had one. Be careful not to jam the blade by cutting too fast. I bent the shaft the blade bolts to. Not much but enough to notice. I sold the saw to my boss as what we cut isn't critical. I bought a Jepson cold cut saw in surplus for $50.00 to replace it.

New tools you've bought recently?

I've been wanting a drill press on a stand and today (Sunday) this one showed up on FB Marketplace for $80.

It's a Northern Tools 16-speed with a 3/4 HP motor and 5/8" chuck. It even came with a vice and some Black & Decker drill bits. :yahoo:

It seems to work good. Just need to clean it up.

i have been wanting a drill press like that for a while, too. thats a great deal

I bought a DeWalt 14" metal cutting saw (DW872 "multicutter") last week, waiting on a new blade to come in but hopefully it'll be a substantial upgrade over my old abrasive chop saw.

I hardly ever used the abrasive one, cut quality sucks. I used it on a piece of 6" channel a couple weeks ago and it felt like it was losing power and then it just shut off. Turns out I burned up the GFCI outlet on the circuit...but even after fixing that it still seems weak. It'll cut small stuff and it sounds normal but it didn't have enough power to complete a second cut in the channel steel. So hopefully the new cold cut saw will be better there.

Sometimes the abrasive saw is still what I need so I did buy another one, got a good deal on another DeWalt at the pawn shop for $90 OTD. I'll be nicer to this one. I imagine cutting up pieces of railroad track back in the day and the recent outlet incident were not good for it.
