i am new here on the ranger station, i have an 1986 ford ranger 2.3 2 wheel drive, i have owened it for 17 years now, its like one of the family, i recently loaned it to my son who proceeded to bust the end of the transmission and break the drive shaft, i got it back put a used trans and drive shaft in it, i decided to give it a makeover, so i removed the bed and flipped the spring hangers, then i took 2 coils out of my front springs, put in new timing belt, coil, spark plugs ,spark plug wires, distributor. i took it fore a test spin and it was blowing the oil out of the breather cap and out the exaust, i am now taking the motor apart, i have the head off and the inside of the motor looks like it was new, no carbon or sludge what so ever, the only thing i have found so far is number 2 spark plug end was bent together at the gapping area, the cylinder walls look smooth, valves look ok, it has 258000 miles on it, it never leaked a drop of oil b4 or smoked or used a drop of oil, what could have caused this sudden catrostrophy?

Welcome to TRS~!

The PCV valve could have seized causing excessive pressure in the crank case and allowing the oil to be tossed out rather rapidly...the PCV valve is near the intake manifold and comes up from underneath...it...should find a hose with the valve near the front of the intake manifold...just pull it out and shake it...if it doesn't rattle then it's probably toast...

Also check the entire hose for leaks above the intake since a vac leak could have caused the PCV to fail...but it would also cause really rough running...and no power...but that's another story...

The bent plug might also explain a bit of loss of power and possible flooding of your oil with gas...leading to a potentially explosive situation...and definitely reducing the effectiveness of the oil for lubricating the engine...
