well my 00 3.0 ranger lost power on the highway and started rapping pretty good. sounds like a rod bearing let go. dont know if i lost oil pressure or not cause the gauge never worked. but its a mint little truck with 0 rot (rare here in new england). just had the heads tested/cleandes/shaved only 1500 miles ago. i found this short block on the internet that seems ok. just looking for an expirenced opinion on this set up or if theres something better out there. thanks. http://www.aaaaautomotive.com/Shop/Control/Product/fp/vpid/8800814/vpcsid/0/SFV/32785

You can buy Late model, low mileage Taurus motors for $300-400, at least around the midwest. I paid $250 for one that had less than 20K on it.

Any Vulcan 3.0, swap your induction, accessories, exhaust manifolds, use your truck sensors and you need to change the head gaskets to the rwd design on the new fwd motor. Its a pretty easy swap, my 02 has an 07 motor in it.

ok, so i need to use my heads and get the headgaskets for a ranger, or do i use vulcan heads and just replace the gaskets?

You can use the new motor heads or your old heads, whichever are in better shape, and then use the rwd gaskets & new head bolts
