I got a 98 ranger 3.0 4x4. Im looking to put some new shocks front and back in it. The rides rough as heck and my front tires are wearing weird, the guy said it becuse of my facotry old shocks are shot. I looked and ya there dead. This summer im looking to put in a 3in body lift. I want somthing thats not to bad in price but is going to preform. I live on a nasty dirt road that really needs a pre runner set up in the summer haa.

There's a million threads in the "4x4 Suspension" section. Bilsteins shocks are the way to go...

I have the Rancho RSX shocks on my 96' Ranger. Ride quality is really good on the highway and more controlable for the off-road dirt roads. They soften up automatically on the highway and stiffen when the dirt roads get rough. One odd benefit, when swerving, the shocks quickly stiffen on the recovery swerve. Which helps prevent rolling.

sorry to thread jack here but are there any diffrence in 4x4 shocks and 2wd shocks? other than ride quality, im talkin about length and width and compatibility between trucks?

Yes. Mostly it is the lenght &/or bolt hook-up. If I remember right, the rear axle did not matter if the Ranger was 4x4 or 2wd. But the front shock numbers were different between the 4x4 & 2wd.

Edit: After digging into my files a little and a little research on gorancho.com . The Rancho RSX shocks that I have are RSX17017 & RSX17029. And Rancho has dropped those two shock numbers from their 2008 catalog.
