New "Scorpion" Diesel

We hear the 2011 refresh could also kill the manual transmission option in the Super Duty.
I think this could be a deal breaker for a lot of people who buy the Super Duty for a work truck.

^^Ill agree with that.... i was mighty dissapointed to see that. Hell id love to see a manual in the F150 again.

Now that's really something to look forward to. I can't wait to know what this new one could do.

+2 x 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 ..........

although lately since I can barely move my left ankle I have been appreciating automatic transmissions more and more...... specially when I have to go to chicago.

Manual trannys are nice if you enjoy them, but really aren't needed for heavy duty trucks. They have automatics that can handle more weight than any Ford pickup can pull and more power than it can make.

Notice the shifter. I know this truck is good for 80k pounds at least. Even up some pretty good hills. It now has 175k miles and is going strong.

I am excited to see Ford run a new diesel. It's really the best option for all vehicles IMHO.

Manual = Better fuel economy. Usually.

It depends. There are more and more automatics that are simply "automated manuals" like the one in my old Kenworth. That transmission is the same Eaton Fuller 10 speed manual that you will find in a regular T-660, except the clutch and shift operations are done with a combination of electronics and air. Is you stripped the tranny down, it could be used as a regular manual.

Then there are the double clutch gearboxes that offer the best of both worlds. You still shift, but don't have a clutch pedal. These would be your paddle shift cars. The double clutch transmissions are actually plenty durable for a light truck.

I do like real manual transmissions, but I see them going the way of the dinosaur in most on road applications with the technology that exists.

Well there still a couple things Superdutys have that other full size don't and I hope never change and thats solid front axle and manual hubs.

Amen to the solid axles. I personally like live axles over any type of disengaging hub though.
