Emissions are going to rain on the diesel parade. Getting it to meet emissions is one thing. Getting a mpg/hp advantage out of it afterwards is another.
Wouldn’t surprise me at all if the little 2.3 has a different bellousing and torque converter than the V6eb’s and the coyote.
