New Ranger?

There were numerous transmissions used in Rangers. Find a 4R70W if you really MUST have an automatic...

How do you figure out what kind of tranny you're getting?

What if you need parts fast? Where can you get any part you'd need same day or next day?

A parts store...

I can find most major parts to keep my '85 on the road from a normal parts store.

There are freaky little things you have to find in a JY or ebay but the meat and potatoes is available from parts stores.

The dealer stuff on old stuff is basically dependant on how they stocked things back in the day. If they stocked everything and happened to get stuck with stuff when the vehicle fell out of favor and the parts were discontinued they have it on hand and are usually eager to dump it for more profitable stock. If it is like my local dealer that pretty much only stocks oil filters for newer cars they have little to no NOS stuff on hand.

Parts stores sell new transmissions and engines? :o

If a 94 was to break down- daily driver- would you take it to the dealer or a mechanic shop to fix? If your rebuilt engine or tranny breaks, would you rebuild again? or replace with a new one?

Yes they do.

I would take it to a shop I trusted to do it, it may be a dealer or it may be an independant depending on how they are in you area. My brother is a tech at the local dealer so I would favor taking it there over an independant. It would cost A LOT more though.

I gotta be able to compare prices and warrenties before I give you a reman vs new answer. Some brands will specify what shops can put them in as well which will force you go to shops you may not care for as well. Too many variables.

Me being the tightwad that I am I would do it myself though. I actually have the tranny out of my Ranger splattered all over a bench right now...

Sorry TRS is being glitchy right now.

But a 4R70 in a Ranger would be epic in all honesty. It would last longer than the damn frame.

Is a 4R70 swap possible? And with a Vortec drop in...

Man, if I drop in a 8.1 liter, damn is all I can say. Doesn't help that it's already a lightweight, swift truck! Makes me want a Ranger even more, too bad I can't find a good one in my price range, or afford a more expensive one. I'd kill (or commit GTA :P) for one!
kidding of course.
